Meet the 4th Tuesday at 5:30 pm
On September 15, 1961, the Junction City Pilot Club was chartered with 19 willing members. We were the 12th club organized in the Kansas-Missouri District. The event was held at the Lamar Hotel with about 75 people in attendance. Irene Rogers was installed as the club's President.
In the early years the club struggled to survive financially, but with the dedicated work of the members, the club pushed on and began an annual Smorgasbord in May 1963. From net profits of a few hundred dollars the first year to over $2,000, the Smorgasbord was our most successful fundraiser for many years. Now we raise most of our funds by working the basketball concessions at K-State.
We have carried out a wide variety of projects to aid our community and its individual peple, with special emphasis on helping the handicapped, elderly, and children. Our project this past year was to support an upgrade and partial replacement of the check-out counter at the local Dorothy Bramlage Public Library to make it more handicap accessible. It will be rebuilt this September.
